What are Fu Dogs?

If you are new to Feng Shui, or Chinese culture in general, you may not be familiar with the traditional Fu (Foo) Dogs. Fu Dogs are half dragon, half lion creatures that are either statues or statuettes. Fu dogs traditionally come in a pair, one male and one female. They are typically used as guardians and are place in front of houses, office doors, and other locations. You have probably seen Fu Dogs “watching over” gates in front of some residences. You can see Fu Dogs all over China and in Chinese buildings worldwide.
Fu Dogs are used as a form of protection for buildings and homes. They are believed to keep a watchful eye on everyone who enters the building, thus why they are placed on either side of the entrance. Fu Dogs also have the ability to read people that enter the building. If someone is entering the home or office with bad intentions, the Fu Dog can help ward off the evil that may be caused. At the home they will deflect the evil or harm that someone may intend to do to your family. At the office Fu Dogs can keep all ill will, envy, and other bad feelings at bay meaning it will not affect your career.
Fu Dog Tips
If you are new to Feng Shui and are new to Fu Dogs, there are a few things that you should know before using them.
· Fu Dogs should always be placed right inside or directly outside of the main doors of the building. They are meant to keep an eye on people coming into the home or office.
· The male Fu Dog should be placed at the left of the entrance. The male can be recognized as usually playing with a ball.
· The female Fu Dog should be placed at the right of the entrance. The female is recognizable by the cub she usually has.
· Remember the importance of placing Fu Dogs facing outward at the entrance. If you place the Fu Dogs facing inside of the location or in the middle of a room, they will be unable to protect you from people coming in. It would actually have the opposite affect and would have a control over the people inside the building.
· It is also good to that Fu Dogs represent the yin and yang symbol of unity. The male Fu Dog embodies the yang, thus the female Fu Dog stands for yin. This is why it is important for the Fu Dogs to always be together to maintain balance and ensure their protection.
